Stepping up for ESA and Kansas!
We have a full slate from the Nominations committee: (L to R) Jacque, Cyndie, Judy, Ruth, Bonnie, Jill, Judy, Angie, Char, Mary Ann and Sondra will run for office this May.
President, Judy Ahrens opened the activities with the Executive Board meeting at 7:00 am. Then met with the chapter presidents and district chairs. This was followed by a meeting of the board chairmen and committees. It was a busy start to a busy day.
After lunch on our own We came back together to enjoy the ESA Foundation / Easter Seal talent show event. What a hoot!!!
Peggy Harrison, ESA Foundation Counselor; Sue Friedel, Jackie Engelken, Judy Ahrens, Sharon Groff, Karen Knorp Brown, Lisa Baum and Sondra Messenger put the talent show together for our entertainment. The Districts and the Lamplighters stepped up to preform their many and varied talents.
(Upper left) District D - their presentation of profound quotes will live with us forever. (Upper right) District C pulls out their "Sister Act", but there is doubt that these were "really" the little angels that we saw marching to the stage. (Center left) Is that a look of stunned disbelief from the audience? (Center right) District G and our Patsy perform (Bottom left) And the winner was District J with their Marge presentations. My apologies to the Lamplighters that came in second for not getting a picture of their talent presentation.

Kansas Council Chartered a new on-line Chapter - Theta Rho
President, Judy Ahrens and Membership Director, Mary Ann Johnson conduct the chartering ceremony for the new on-line chapter, Theta Rho. Eight members signed the charter. Verneene Forssberg, Pratt; Kimberly Konecny, Wichita; Marilyn Logbeck, Derby; Raylene West, Dighton; Sharon Rubenech, Florida; Barbara Taylor-Fly, Florida; Dayna Homit, Colorado; and Mary Ann Graham, Winfield. They chartered with two new ESA members.
The Workshop Coordinator, Cyndie Ewy planned a workshop from the Kansas Highway Petrol. Trooper J. H. Riedel's presentation emphasized how NOT to be a victim. The levels of awareness that a person needs to maintain in order to keep a safe environment was interesting and informative. Pointers were given on how to react in suspicious situations and how to plan for your safety. Simple rules of highway safety and car care were covered with the objective of knowing how to do simple things like change a flat tire or read a map. Many questions were asked by the members in attendance. This workshop was very informative and valuable to the members.
After the evening meal, we played games while others "watched" the WSU Game in the lobby. There is nothing like a diehard fan! Everyone enjoyed the evening of relaxed fun planned by the Easter Seal and ESA Foundation committees. They pulled in $2000 this weekend to be shared equally between these two charities.
Sunday Morning we were up bright and early for the Kansas State Council board meeting to conduct the council's business
Chaplain, Jacque Bolinger gave her thoughts and report at the start of the Council meeting. The council's business ended just before noon and we all headed for home.
