Thank you note from Mariah Ward - IC Outstanding Youth
I would like to thank you all for appointing me to the Outstanding Junior High youth winner. It really means a lot to me.
I would like to give a big thanks to my Delta Chi Chapter. Without them, I would not be receiving this award. The kindness that this chapter and the ESA State sorority has shown me has been overwhelming.
This leadership opportunity has and will give me the courage to continue my goals.
I plan to continue my role as a teen advisor to the teen advisory board for The Children’s Miracle Network Charity. I started last fall and took part in the Models for Miracle’s Venue in which I was able to help raise over $600 for families in the Wichita and surrounding areas.
I will continue being involved in sports, band, and cheerleading. And I also plan to participate in Stucco, Kays, FCA, Forensics, and the all School Play. I am also the treasurer for my freshman class.
I would also like to remain a good role model for my younger peers an help them achieve their goals for leadership by trying to set good examples and show them that its ok to stand up for what you believe in and not give up. Its ok to stumble now and then, because after all, we are human.
Thank you Epsilon Sigma Alpha, International Sorority, Thank you Kansas ESA, and thank you to Delta Chi sorority. I am proud to be your Junior High Outstanding youth.
Sincerely, Mariah Ward of Caldwell, Kansas

We headed WEST to Ulysses in August
District G rolled out the red carpet as the state board members headed out west to enjoy the beautiful unobstructed view of the sunsets and the arrival of the morning sun.
Officers and chairman gave their reports, stated their themes and goalls for the year, and then we all had some great fun while we did our work. We even had time to shop and explore downtown Ulysses.

You never know what you might see when you attend a Kansas State Council meeting. As the ladies explored Ulysses they ran onto Miss Piggy's car! Now where has this been? It's too special not to share with everyone!

Off to the Civic Center, members began to prepare for the day on Saturday. There was much to do and , of course, a lot of visiting to catch up on since we had last met. One of the most important aspects of serving on the board or attending the meetings are the lasting friendships we have in ESA.

Social and Fun Chairman - Maureen Wells led the group
activities for "Happy Hour"
Saturday morning everyone gathered for some planned fun. The fun was planned and lead by Maureen and her Social Committee, Diane Goold, Cindy Rodman. Although it was difficut to imagine having fun without her, Denise Masterson couldn't make it this weekend but we had fun just the same. We broke into groups by birth order designation and tried to define what our personalities were like. Some of us did quite well at this while others struggled with a few grandeous ideas of self importance in the family. It was all in fun, of course.
Modeling the wears for the "Support the Girls" project
The International Convention in Virginia was featured with a report of how things went. One of the projects sponsored by the IC president, Susan Winters was "Support the Girls" for breast cancer awareness. The ESA ladies decorated their bras and modeled them for the cheering crowds at convention. Here Phyllis Simmons, Angie Fairbanks, Judy Ahrens and Cyndie Ewy show some of the bras that were feature in July. The program was a big ESA hit.
The Kit Cat Girls - Ways and Means Committee were show stoppers at the meeting. Left to right: Sandy Keener, Diane Stowell, Colleen Noll, and Pat Bomholt. This might be an "INTERESTING" year!

Cyndi Ewy, Workshop Coordinator hosted a fun workshop called, "How Do You Tie Your Scarf?"Demonstrations on scarf tying, were given by Stephanie Castillo of Grant County Extension Office. Stephanie's assistants were two of her daughters, Courtney and Cori. Everyone that wanted a handout was given one to take home to practice. Now we can all look beautiful in our new scarfs.

What a grand total for Kansas this year - $216,737 for St. Jude!
ESA for St. Jude Senior Coordinator, Sandie White, told of her trip to St. Jude Children’s Hospital and how we can help raise money to support this cause. She gave information to the membership on hosting math-a-thons, radio-a-thons, and trike-a-thons. Donations were collected, in a backpack to be filled with school supplies and presented to a child at St. Jude Children’s Hospital. ESA has now passed the $175 million mark for St. Jude since 1972 when we first made the hospital our philanthropic project. We just keep on keepin on!! This year over $12 million was collected for the hospital.
